Slow Down, Embrace Wonder and Pay Yourself First
Welcome to the Growth Guide, a weekly newsletter where I share actionable ideas to help you Live Better, Achieve More and Be Financially Free.
Live Better
This week on the Growth Guide Podcast we talked to Jonah Paquette, author of Awestruck: How Embracing Wonder Can Make You Happier, Healthier and More Connected.
The news can make you stressed, anxious and depressed.
Focus on what will make you happier, healthier and more connected.
When we experience awe, we feel a sense of connection to other people and to something larger than ourselves. It helps us be:
kinder
humbler
less stressed
more curious
less materialistic
more compassionate
happier and healthier
Awestruck serves as a guide to help you tap into the powerful life-changing benefits of awe, including how it can help alleviate struggles in our modern life, including stress, social isolation and time pressure.

Achieve More
Slow Down. Listen. Be more patient and reflective.
I can remember reading this mantra like it was yesterday.
You see, in 2013, I met with an industrial psychologist to determine the next steps in my career at a company I was working for and they gave the mantra to me with the results of my assessment.
A few days later, I was sitting with my boss and he said there’s no future growth for you here, you’ve got two choices:
Keep doing your current job
Leave this job and pursue your growth
We concluded I’d move on and he’d support me in the role for 6 months as we transitioned my work and I found a new position.
The next day, I sat in my boss’s office and said I think I made a mistake. Why don’t I stay here, keep doing my job and I’ll do an MBA and we can reassess my career.
He replied, it’s not an option.
Reality hit.
I’d been fired.
I won’t lie, it was the first time in my life I lost confidence in myself.
I didn’t know what to do.
I was broken.
Click below to read how within a year, I found a job with a company I’ve worked with for the last decade where I became a CFO.

Be Financially Free
Too many people get paid, spend on their lifestyle, and invest what’s left over.
You need to invest at least 20% of your pay FIRST and then spend what’s left.
This is called the Pay Yourself First Rule.
It means you need to make your investments a priority before you spend on your wants and needs.
If there’s any rule you follow, make it the pay yourself first rule and use automation to do it, but that’s a rule for next week.

A Thought
Sometimes, we need to go through darkness to find the light.
Every time I’ve had a major improvement in my life, it’s been on the heels of my darkest moments.
A Question
In your darkest moments, what light have you found inside yourself, my friends?
Etc.
For the Thought and Question, drop me a note - I want to hear from you.
I’m using Twitter and Social Media to help myself become financially free.
It’s about building a content-centered business, which will allow me to focus on writing, podcasting and creating full-time.
