Achieve More

The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don’t know.

- Albert Einstein

Most of us want to be seen as experts or knowledge leaders.

We want to be seen at the top of our games.

But, that mindset actually gets in our way.

To achieve at the highest levels, you need to act as if you’re at the lowest level.

You need a beginner’s mindset, which makes me think of the story of The Monk and the Teacup:

Once upon a time, there was a wise Zen master who was highly sought after for his counsel and wisdom. The Zen master rarely turned anyone away.

One day, an important man came to visit him, asking to be taught about Zen and enlightened. The man’s tone was confident and commanding as if he was used to getting his own way.

The Zen master suggested they talk about it over a cup of tea and invited the man inside.

As the master poured the tea, the student kept talking and boasting about his knowledge, interrupting the master and not letting him speak.

The master kept pouring the tea, and the cup overflowed, spilling onto the table. The student exclaimed, What are you doing? The cup is full, and the tea is spilling out!

The master replied, Your mind is like this cup. It is full of your own opinions and ideas. If you want to learn about Zen, you must first empty your cup.

Empty Your cups, my friends, and come inside to read how you can develop a beginner’s mindset:

Become Financially Free

I used to be That Guy.

I put my Work ahead of my Health and Family.

I Optimized my life for my Career and Financial Wealth.

It all came to a head when:

  • My health gave out

  • My son stopped looking me in the eyes

  • And, my 20+ year relationship was on the rocks

It was the wake-up call I needed.

Now, my health and family will always come first.

I always thought to myself: the boys are youngI’m not missing anything.

Boy, was I wrong!

I was missing everything.

Over the last five years, I’ve focused on how I want to optimize in my life with intention:

  1. What are my values

  2. What’s my purpose in life

  3. How do I want to achieve that purpose

  4. Who do I want to achieve my purpose with

It’s led me to realize I want to optimize my life for the Five F’s Framework:

  1. Fun

  2. Family

  3. Fitness

  4. Freedom

  5. Fulfillment

Figure out what you want to optimize for and, then, do it.

A Thought

We can optimize our lives for the wrong things when we don't consciously think about it.

How much better would our life be if we took a step back and intentionally chose what we’d optimize our lives for?

A Question

What are you optimizing your life for today?

Etc.

For the Thought and Question, drop me a note - I want to hear from you.
